Hope
05:36
|
|||
Alone at the bus stop, all made up, it's Friday night
There's hope in your heart it won't suck, he will be kind
You hope he shows you some sign he won't throw you back
He won't ignore you, he'll listen, he'll meet your eyes
You always see the good in him, light that flickers on
Hoping you got it right this time, no more wasting time, precious time
You try hard not to give too much,
Just this one more time, one more time.
I know I can make it on my own, I don't want to
It's like the song says, this world was built for two
So I'm at the bus stop, it's Friday, hope keeps me warm
And I'm looking my best, and that's not bad, it's up to you
Trying your best to be good, the way you want to be
Knowing you deserve to be treated the same way

Return
04:47
|
|||
Just got back and what's all this?
No I don't recognise
Unfamiliar, where you wouldn't linger
Is now a line of fancy shops
Cafe, restaurant, people on their phones
Stepping out under these towers
Made of glass, like big mirrors
They check their phones, and check their hair
They call it re- re-generation
Someone's living there!
Do I hide among the concrete? Where do I belong?
Should I slide between the houses? Will they find me out?
Hiding in these steel containers
Where do I belong?
Yes I admit it was nothing much
Just a row of houses
And on some days, all you'd see was your face caught in the rain
The road was closer then, I can't see clearly now
But there's nothing in between
There's no living space, there's no hiding place
There's no way for you and me
Yeah it was a bit mundane, maybe yeah
But it was home
Yeah, can't say that we weren't here now baby, baby
But it's all gone

Hubrist
03:32
|
|||
Never really young and pretty
So forget faded glamour
Still bring our case of hubris
I still don't know the ropes
I'm lucky just to be here
Could easily have fallen
Disabled up in orbit
But we are here
As you unscrew the screw
The wood comes back to you
Don't grip too tight on this life
You don't know just how much no-one needs this
You should go and give thanks for this moment
Why don't they send a message
Just something automated
To show there's recognition
Of something so unique
What we've evacuated
Must be approeciated
Otherwise I'm just an actor
Don't give up your job

Unwritten Contract
03:29
|
|||
Maybe it's not what you need, to hear how I'm feeling
Maybe I should stop talking, but I'll tell you anyway
I could dress it up now, but it would just look stupid
Love's the guarantee that...
I'll give you everything, every bit of my bullshit
All you need
We have some house rules, they're not on the wall
You joined this club so should know it anyway
Unwritten contract -
You give me solace, I give you my fear
So will you call my bluff, call me out of the crowd, call me
Stretch it to the limit, with invented crises that I bring to you
The one way understanding I expect from you just makes me smile
Do you see a sign?
Do you see a sign I might
Give more than I take?
Maybe I should just go lie in a field
Let the weeds grow

Salvage
04:49
|
|||
You feel like giving in
Cos you've got nothing left to give
You still made what you have
You owe nothing to your God
You don't need to pass it on
You won't get to pass the blame
He won't save you when the truth hits
But it makes a good song
I don't have the right
To tell someone not to hope
For something more
Cling to belief supernatural
See what's left to salvage
Take another into the flock
Please try to sympathise
When I can't empathise
We need to go inside
II don't have the right
To tell someone not to hope
For something more
Cling to belief supernatural
Because I can't believe that anyone can still believe
I've clung to worse like a child
I've clung to worse like a child
Like a child, we're all afraid
Like a child, we're all afraid
Who paints the sunsets in watercolours?
It took a million years to do
Who gave your God-given smile to you?
It was the joy you found inside

Narcissism World
04:59
|
|||
Second guessing disinfecting every conversation before you start
Stretch it out til
You don't know what it is anymore
But you know what it's not
So shut it down
My one saving grace at least I know that I don't know
You can't say that you've figured it out
You're not allowed to suggest anyone might be wrong
Everyone's an expert
Do I qualify once you have qualified it all
We're lucky that you're self-appointed
You don't know any more than I do
So dilute with conviction and shut it down
The trick's to keep it light, it goes through on a wink
Everyone will get their turn but the loudest voices win
Where did you get this thing, we must know who to blame
This self-entitled mind thinks everything's a game
You've gotta be on top, the loudest voices win
Doesn't matter where you are, just make sure that you're in
Talking to themselves, empty vessels echoing down the lines
While all the action happens somewhere else
In secret chambers
You might as well just keep talking
If the only thing that we agree on
Is that the sky is blue that's something
In 10,000 years is all that we have learned
Is that a little knowledge is dangerous?
